Reduced Heat Island

Cities have a much higher concentration of hard, impermeable surfaces which absorb a lot of heat (i.e. asphalt, concrete, buildings) causing urban regions to become warmer than the surrounding rural regions. Building with lighter-coloured, more reflective materials (especially for roofs) and areas with increased quantities of trees and vegetation reduces heat island effect.
